Week #34, #35, + #36
I am just realizing that I have gotten a little behind on blogging. Time has been absolutely flying by, and I have been keeping super busy.
I have been trying to check off some of the last places on my list that I want to visit in Germany. Now that the weather is finally improving, I am able to spend some more time enjoying the outdoors. I am trying to get into hiking, so I visited the Basteibrücke at "Saxony's Switzerland," which is a very popular hike within my state. The hike had some really cool rock formations, as well as a nice view over the village.
The next trip I took was to Cologne, where I spent 24 hours exploring the city. In addition to of course visiting the cathedral, I went to the chocolate museum (where I got to learn how chocolate is made), walked along the Rhein River, walked over the famous lock bridge, tried a Kölsch beer, and then watched the sunset over the city. While in the area, I also stopped in Düsseldorf briefly, which was a super cute, quaint town.
After Cologne, I headed to Julia's in Limburg. I spent the night at her place, and we caught up, dyed Easter eggs, and took a trip to visit her horse. The next day we headed together to her parent's house in Saarbrücken. It was the first time I was able to meet her parents in person. They were super nice and welcoming. Her mom taught me how to make German carrot salad and German cheesecake, we went for a hike together with their dog, and we toured around the city. It was weird to be back in Saarbrücken, as the last time I was there was in high school.
We then celebrated Easter together. We had a nice dinner with two of their family friends: a man from Texas and his German wife. They were very interesting to talk to, and funny enough, the man was actually my high school German teacher's former professor.
After that, I headed back to Leipzig to celebrate a belated Easter with my host family. We had a small Easter egg hunt and ate lunch and dessert with my host dad's parents.
